REBECCA "BECKY" L. CUSTER BRUMFIELD , 73 of South Charleston passed away peacefully at home on July 14, 2010 surrounded by her family and many, many loving friends.
Becky was born in Greenville, Ohio on February 6, 1937, the daughter of Ruth and Corliss Custer.
At the age of 3, she moved with her parents to a farm in Selma. She enjoyed a childhood rich with devoted parents, happy country living, and plenty of hard work. It was on this farm that Becky's love of horses was born and nourished. Whether she was riding to bring in the cows or in a show ring, supporting her daughter, Diana at horse shows throughout the United States, or driving a team, her passion and enjoyment never wavered. For 25 years she owned and operated B and B Carriage with Bob Peterson, driving her beautiful Percherons for weddings, sleigh rides, hay rides, parades and celebrations of all sorts. She also enjoyed acquiring and selling antiques, especially treasuring anything related to farm life, family, and horses. Gardening, caning and freezing was her "spare time" activity. Becky was also a licensed beautician for over 50 years. The day following her graduation from Southeastern High School in 1955, she began her employment with Navistar. She retired in 1992 after 37 years.
Becky is preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, James Brumfield; cherished daughter Diana Lynn Carper, DVM, RN of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and cousins Kay (William) Marinich of Tully, New York and Sue (Donald) Griggs of Pinehurst, North Carolina.
On behalf of Becky's family they would like to thank their friends, neighbors and Community Mercy Hospice for their care and support.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, July 18, 2010 from 2-6 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Arby Conn officiating.
Burial will follow in the Ferncliff Cemetery.
