Wilson, Mildred A. "Mickey", 87, passed on to eternal rest on July 14, 2010, at home with her loving family at her side.
She was life long resident of Springfield, born July 18, 1923 and grew up here with her sister Dot, her mom, Nora and dad, Oscar, graduating from Springfield High School in 1941.
A woman ahead of her time, she went on to Ohio State University and received a bachelor and master's degree in microbiology.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Warner Wilson; son Nathan (Debbie) Wilson, of Dunbarton, NH; daughter, Marie Wilson (David) Peckenpaugh, of Naperville, IL; and sister Dorthea"Dot" Belt of Thompson, CT; grandchildren: Rachel Peckenpaugh (Branden) Johnson, Rebecca Peckenpaugh (Chris) Koetje, Jacqueline Peckenpaugh, Charles Wilson, Isaac Wilson; and great granddaughter, Annika Johnson. She leaves behind her faithful dog Charlie.
Sixty seven years ago, while attending OSU, she attended a USO dance on the Sunday afternoon of June 13, 1943 and met her lifelong sweetheart, Warner. Teaching was Mickey's passion. She taught microbiology at University of Akron and was a graduate assistant at Ohio State. After a break to raise her children, she returned to teaching at Clark State Community College, helping prepare college students for health related careers. During her career she also worked as a microbiologist for the health department in both Akron and later in Dayton. Mickey spent summers teaching children to swim as a volunteer through the local Red Cross. She loved time with her family, traveled with her husband, and enjoyed bridge with her friends. Mickey and Warner spent many years square dancing and round dancing together.
A gathering of family and friends is planned to celebrate her life at Highlands United Church of Christ, 1910 St. Paris Pike, Springfield, on Saturday July 17th starting at 4 p.m., to be followed by a memorial service at 4:30.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mickey's name to Community Mercy Hospice, 444 W. Harding Rd., Springfield, Ohio 45504.
